Houston Museum of Natural Science Internship

Precision/Detail Fabricator

June 30 - August 20, 2017

As a Studio Art and Math double major, I was interested in working for an architectural design firm to get some experience in the Architecture field of study. My amazing Internship opportunity with Paul Bernhard Exhibits at the Houston Museum of Natural Science involved much more construction and fabrication than I had anticipated and led to an intense and unbelievably rewarding experience. Working 40 hours a week with power tools, advanced technology and extremely experienced architects and engineers made for an internship I will never forget.

Below are two progress videos from the time while I was there. This has been a three year project that I became a part towards the end of that time. Working from June through August before the November opening allowed my skillset to shine in detailed finishings, precision measuring, fitting, cutting, and designing, touch up work, and repair jobs. In the videos below I can be seen attaching thousand dollar pieces of laminate to the exterior of an exhibit, installing exhibit pieces, painting and preparing a three dimensional wall with wildfire iridescent paint and attaching cut, bevelled, and polished pieces of MDF to the surface. I also painted and sculpted a rocky mountain landscape for a large display working with polygem and bandeau.
